Hi, my name is Becca, and I am the founder of Creative Makers.

I am an experienced secondary school teacher, having taught and led departments in Art & Design, Textiles and Photography, with over 15 years of experience working with children and young people.

Alongside my career in education and the visual arts, I also have a long-standing professional background in music and DJ culture. I have been DJing for over 15 years, previously working professionally as a DJ and radio show host, and I am the founder of  Music from the Mothership. This combination of education, visual arts and music has become an important part of the Creative Makers approach, allowing us to offer young people different ways to connect, create and express themselves.

I am also a parent raising a neurodivergent child. Both my professional experience and my personal understanding of the challenges some young people can face within traditional education have shaped the values and purpose behind Creative Makers.

I am passionate about creating spaces where young people feel safe, supported and able to be themselves — particularly those who may benefit from smaller, more flexible and creative approaches to learning.

Creative Makers now supports children and young people each year through programmes in schools, at our specialist creative settings and within the wider community.

We are a community arts and specialist creative education organisation based in Frome, Somerset, bringing together art, photography, textiles, digital media, making, music technology and DJing. Our work ranges from community workshops and clubs to school outreach, one-to-one creative mentoring and alternative provision.

At the heart of everything we do is a belief that creativity can give young people another way in — a way to connect, communicate, build confidence, discover their strengths and experience success.

Our Approach

Our programmes provide calm, supportive and inspiring spaces where young people can express themselves, be themselves and find their voice through creativity.

We believe there is no single way to be creative — or to learn. A young person might find their confidence through painting or photography, discover a passion for textiles and fashion, build something with their hands, create digitally, or find their voice through music production and DJing.

Our practitioners encourage young people to experiment, develop their own ideas and take creative risks without fear of getting things wrong. Our provision can be holistic and exploratory, project-based, curriculum-linked or qualification-focused, depending on the needs and aspirations of the individual.

Creative Makers works with both small and larger groups, as well as providing one-to-one mentoring, but always prioritises environments that feel safe, welcoming, inclusive and supportive.

Our approach can be particularly valuable for:

• Children and young people with SEND or EHCPs
• Young people experiencing school-related anxiety or EBSA
• Those with social, emotional or mental health needs

Our approach is child-centred, inclusive and trauma-informed, allowing young people to work at their own pace, make meaningful choices and develop confidence through positive creative experiences.

Today, Creative Makers works in schools, in the community and from our own specialist creative settings, offering everything from clubs and workshops to outreach, individual mentoring and alternative provision.

Creative Makers is more than an arts and music provider. We are a specialist creative education service that understands how powerful creativity can be in transforming a young person's experience of learning.

Our approach combines high-quality creative teaching with flexible, child-centred and inclusive practice, allowing art, photography, textiles, digital media, making and music to become vehicles for confidence, communication, wellbeing, engagement and academic achievement.

For some young people, that might mean finding a creative space where they finally feel comfortable enough to engage. For another, it might mean discovering a passion for photography, textiles or DJing. For others, it may mean working towards Arts Award or receiving specialist support with GCSE or A-Level Art, Photography, Textiles or other creative subjects.

We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to find their voice, experience success and discover what they are capable of.
